INTEGRATING IP SYSTEMS EXPLAINED CLEARLY AND CONCISELY

Are you lost in knowing the benefits of integrating two or more systems into a single solution? You should know what integration is about and what you are missing if you don’t make use of it.

We do provide articles about individual integration projects regularly, but we have not yet offered you a general overview. That is why the You should know column is here. Read on and you may discover that thanks to integration, you could enjoy success in projects where you would not have otherwise expected.

What do we mean by integration?

This concerns communication between two or more systems which at first glance seem to be separate.Together, they create a single, connected solution. What type of systems does this affect? For example, camera systems (video management systems), PA systems, building security (alarms), facility management, home automation, attendance systems, access control systems, door communication, etc.

How can different systems communicate with each other?

They just need to speak the same language. This involves open protocols (SIP, ONVIF, RTSP, HTTPS, Syslog and others). When two systems speak the same language, all you need to do is connect them and show them how to communicate.

Why should systems communicate with each other?

In general, this leads to lower costs at different levels. Transmitting from the video intercom to VMS? You save on costs for the camera. A SIP expert will easily understand any system using this open protocol and won’t need to study the unique system, thus saving time. If two systems can communicate with each other, we can instruct them to perform certain operations themselves. Automated processes increase efficiency, eliminate manual work, reduce error rates and improve security.

What is the advantage of implementing this in a project?

Customers today are very fussy, which is a good thing. They want a camera system from one company, an attendance system from another and a door communicator from a third. They also want the systems to work together, complement each other and be easy to operate—ideally from a single user-friendly interface. This can be done well thanks to integration.

What do you get out of it?

You can offer products running on open protocols and standards for more complex projects. Projects where the customer wants a high level of cooperation between systems. The profit margin on a complex, integrated system especially will be much greater than with just a single product.

Why choose our products?

Because we have been working on this from the very start—all our products are based on open protocols. We have tested our products with more than 200 solutions from other manufacturers and are still adding more. We have a large database of manuals and instructions which describe in detail how to set up our system and the systems of our integration partners. This means you no longer have to think how to achieve integration.

What does this sort of integration look like?

Examples are the best way to show you. A person enters a zone where they should not be. A camera detects them. This sends instructions to an audio system which then plays a pre-recorded message telling the person to leave the area. If they fail to do so within 10 seconds, an alarm notifies the security service.

Integration of a video intercom with VMS is a simpler and more common application.

You can include video streams from intercom cameras in camera systems. Security guards see footage on their monitors from cameras and video intercoms.

But we also integrate our services. For example, calls from intercoms to mobile phones. The 2N®Mobile Video service is independent, but it can become part of a unique residential application which also offers other functions, such as lighting and air-conditioning control, communication with reception or a facility management company, or even monthly rental payments.
